Three challenges define social-política sustainability

The subtle difference between pure social development and social and political sustainability is very essential for the achievement of sustainable development. Just as economic development achieved little advertised achievements are unsustainable, so too social enrichment go hand in hand with a concerted effort to ensure its continued viability.

Open, contested political arenas provide the only means for this fin-arenas contested by you. These three phenomena that threaten the sustainability of our social processes and policies; beg our dedicated attention.

1. More insidious threat of all is the prevailing political apathy. If the general population can not be convinced that their destiny is enough game to engage actively, then, all hope is probably lost. There are many causes of apathy; clearly the simplest is centered within the people more concerned with personal social enrichment, or believe that the benefits derived from social participation shall not be commensurate with the time and resources invested. This phenomenon can be compared to the notions of the theory of games and politics of the "tragedy of the Commons". A related cause of political apathy is a blind faith in social and political institutions. But we must remember adoption of Sartre that "is loyal to a set of political and social, and never leaves of this contest" does there is contradiction in the belief that a nation of social and political processes are the best ever conceived by humanity and even increase every morning to challenge them. In fact, it is the very essence of democracy.

2. The existence of social inertia is different from apathy.Human beings are creatures of hábito.Incluso when reported and recognizing specific problems, we can be resistant to the spectrum of aggressively addressing political mechanisms if so to do so implies a break with enshrined cultural tradition. In a 2006 survey, 85% of Americans stated his belief that global warming is "probably happening", while half stated that the problem of global warming is "very important" for them. However the ubiquity of single occupant United States road vehicles has not diminished.

3. Where the general population is involved and committed, often this may pose problems of inefficiency social and political. This problem can be particularly acute in countries that are large in the population and geography.Impossible to reach a consensus at times can lead to parálisis.En virtue of an autocratic establishment, the Government can execute changes to the social and political institutions with a rapidity which sometimes is enviable. But, of course, not that advisory; sustainability of the social and political dimension is only guaranteed long term if it is reflection of the collective will. A different kind of inefficiency social political arises when there is no obstruction to the consensus, but channels are limited to initiate change (particularly in the judiciary), convoluted or overloaded.

Political apathy and social inertia can only be combated daily efforts underway to inform, raise, and cause. Happily, political social inefficiency can be addressed more methodical. Governments, businesses, NGOs and non-profit alter and influence in the State of our natural and social environment every day.Actors seeking to bridge the gap between these entities and the general population and to facilitate their interaction, aided by the extraordinary participation, new technologies have an important role to play in the future of social and political sustainability.

An evocation of these challenges would not be complete without an examination of dynamic interactions that engenders the political social domain with other elements of sustainable development.Economy is the science of the allocation of resources, the study of the ways in which we satisfy the needs and desires humanos.ninguna human need is more fundamental than of the power. in a revealing illustration of the interdependence of the three components of sustainable development, increase in world food prices now pose a serious threat to social sustainability and the mundo.Uno policy need only turn to the recent social unrest and political instability in Haiti, Egypt and Philippines to be sure of.These price increases are derived from the uncertainties with regard to the sustainability of agricultural processes. To be specific, some have very explicitly cited efforts in the West to subsidize and encourage the production of biofuels as a leading inflation factor (though certainly flourishing classes mean in the India and China seem to be responsible for other upward price pressures) .and all of this as the feasibility of the biofuels falls under a penetrating scrutiny.

Social and political sustainability of these challenges are being inextricably linked to the future of sustainability as a company.
